| MPA | Advising & Registration |
 |
Upon admission to the MPA program a faculty member will meet with you as an Academic Advisor. The responsibilities of your advisor include working with you in planning a complete program of graduate study and specifying any background coursework that may be necessary. You should plan to meet your academic advisor as soon as possible after admission to the Program.
You will meet with your academic advisor at least once before each semester. Advisor approval is necessary before you register for courses that will count toward the MPA degree. If you wish a specific faculty member to be your advisor, or wish to change advisors at any time, contact the Director of the MPA program.
If you decide to complete the MPA degree requirements by doing a thesis in a specific subject area, you should request a faculty member who is knowledgeable in that area to be your Thesis Advisor and Chairperson of your thesis committee. This person will be your principal advisor for thesis research and will help you select two other faculty members for your thesis committee.
The option of registration by extension at a university is intended to allow a postbaccalaureate student to take a class or workshop for the purpose of personal development and earn university credit without having to apply to a particular degree program. Approval of such registration must be received in advance from the MPA Graduate Studies Committee. Regularly offered classes (except for summer sessions) taken by extension registration will not normally be credited toward completion of MPA degree requirements. |
