Message from the President

Phi Kappa Phi president's photoSalutations!

That was Charlotte’s first word of communication to Wilbur, the pig, putting into motion a friendship and partnership of great cooperation.   You may recognize the characters of E.B. White’s much-beloved children’s book, “Charlotte’s Web."   I love the optimism of the story.

With the launch of our newly redesigned web page, I want to extend a hand of friendship and partnership from the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, California State University, Stanislaus – Chapter 282.  The Society’s motto, “Let the Love of Learning Rule Humanity,” is our beacon, the overarching reason for our existence as a chapter.   We strive to encourage and foster the pursuit of academic excellence.

I invite you to peruse the links on this site to learn more about the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi and about our Chapter’s activities.   Please view the Chapter 282 display case in the library lobby as well.   The availability of scholarships, grants, fellowships, and study abroad opportunities are all part of the society’s commitment to supporting academic growth.

Since the inception of Chapter 282 in 1999, our annual spring initiation ceremony has been a highlight of each year’s activities.   This year’s ceremony honoring scholarly excellence in every academic discipline is slated for May 1, 2009.   High achieving freshmen and sophomores will be invited to attend the ceremony to be recognized for their accomplishments.   Juniors in the top 7.5% of the class for their major, seniors in the top 10% of the class for their major, and graduate students in the top 10% of the class for their major, with qualifying GPA’s, will be invited to initiation into the chapter.   Chapter members can also submit nominations for faculty initiates.

Chapter officers work together to promote Phi Kappa Phi and to collaborate with other campus and community groups in supporting academic achievement. Phi Kappa Phi Week runs from April 27-May 1, 2009.   Activity proposals are submitted for consideration, to be reviewed and approved by chapter officers. Members are welcome to attend meetings and to give input about the activities of the chapter.
