  1. 2008-2009
    Child Development Assessment Project
    Rita Asher (Child Development), Victoria Cortez (Child Development)
    Analysis of data collected in introductory and capstone courses over a period of four semesters. Students in classes worked together to mentor and evaluate one another’s progress. Data used to evaluate the developmental progress in students’ theoretical foundations, professional skills such as grant writing, and the ability to speak to and document individual personalized worldviews. Assesses the impact of collaborative/mentor relationship between juniors and seniors.

    Criminal Justice: Direct Assessment Instrument
    Gregory Morris (Criminal Justice)
    Administered a multiple-choice assessment created by departmental faculty in five courses. Assessment was administered to 100 first year and 100 seniors to measure student achievement of student learning objectives in lower and upper division criminal justice courses.

    Conducted classroom based research used for both institutional accreditation and the departmental Academic Program Review. Presented with a graduate student on their joint-research regarding student involvement in assessment. Produced an article for the campus publication Faculty Voices on classroom-based research.

    WASC Workshop: Teaching and Assessing in the Psychology Major

    Participated in discipline-specific workshops. Information shared with program faculty and used in program assessment. Used this forum to discuss ideas for the department’s Academic Program Review.

    Focus Group Study: Learning Outcomes in the Single Subject Matter Program in Physical Education
    Shawna Young (Physical Education), J.Sue Fletcher (Physical Education), Keith Nainby (Communications)
    Study explored perceptions of preparation by Single Subject Matter Physical Education graduates. Focus group designed to generate in-depth discussion of the curricular areas of interest to faculty in the Department of Physical Education and Health. Findings used in program review and in a potential revision to enhance the professional preparation of graduates of the Single Subject Matter Program in Physical Education.

    Focus Group Study: Objectives in the Department of Music
    Matthew Pivec (Music) and Keith Nainby (Communications)
    Focus group explored participant perceptions of primary learning objectives within the curriculum in the Department of Music and was designed to generate in-depth discussion of the curricular areas of interest to faculty in the Department of Music. Focus group results used to develop a plan for discussion and action for Department of Music faculty.
