 Donald Thornton


 Tuba


Donald Thornton is an active freelance musician in the San Francisco Bay Area. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Music from California State University, Hayward, where he studied with Dan Livesay, professor of trombone and tuba at CSUH, and Floyd Cooley, principal tuba of the San Francisco Symphony. After graduation, Mr, Thornton studied with Arnold Jacobs, principal tuba of the Chicago Symphony. He served for fourteen years as tubist and music arranger with The Klezmorim, the band which spearheaded the revival of "klezmer" music. The band toured internationally, playing many prestigious venues including two sold-out shows at Carnegie Hall. The Klezmorim received a Grammy nomination for its recording "Metropolis." Presently, Mr. Thornton is tubist with The Brassworks quintet, and performs frequently with the Santa Rosa Symphony, the Napa Valley Symphony, and the Vallejo Symphony, as well as many other groups.
