Dr. Richard Roper

Dr. Richard Roper, trumpet, holds degrees from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, Yale School of Music, and the University of Maryland. As a Harriet Hale Woolley Scholar, he spent a year studying and performing in Paris. Committed to arts education, Richard serves on the faculties of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music Preparatory/Adult Extension department, the Community School of Music and Arts in Silicon Valley, as trumpet instructor at CSU Stanislaus, and formerly at the University of Maine and the Washington, D.C. Youth Orchestra.

 

Richard performs frequently with many northern California ensembles including Symphony Silicon Valley, Santa Cruz Symphony, Lamplighters, San Jose Opera, Masterworks Chorale, Oakland Symphony, and others. He is also a member of the Monteverdi Brass Quintet, a new ensemble dedicated to performing early music on modern instruments. His arrangements and editions of early music for brass are available through Charles Colin and BVD Press. In addition, Richard has studied and performed at the Aspen Music festival, the Music Academy of the West, the Norfolk Chamber Music festival, and the Mendocino Music Festival. His major teachers include Chris Gekker, Allan Dean, Mario Guarneri, Antoine Curé, and Raymond Mase.
