trombone performance from the Eastman
School of Music with a Performer's
Certificate for Excellence in solo
performance. His major teachers include
Dr. John Marcellus, professor of trombone
at the Eastman School of Music, Mark
Lawrence, principal trombonist of the San
Francisco Symphony, and John Engelkes,
bass trombonist with the San Francisco
Symphony.

In 1989, Mr. Hornig was invited by Michael
Tilson Thomas to join The New World Symphony as
principal trombonist, a position he held for four
seasons. As a freelance musician in the San
Francisco Bay Area, he performs regularly with the
San Francisco Symphony, San Francisco Opera, and
the California Symphony. He is also a founding
member of the Pacific Chamber Brass Quintet. Mr.
Hornig can be heard on orchestral recordngs with
the San Francisco Symphony, The California
Symphony, The New World Symphony, the Dryden
Theater Orchestra and the Eastman Wind
Ensemble.
