Chamber Music Camp is an intense program for the finest young musicians in California. A select group (up to twenty-eight) accomplished musicians will be selected by taped audition and awarded a full scholarship to participate in the chamber camp. Students may choose to audition for any one of the following ensembles: String Quartet, Vocal Octet, Brass Quintet, Woodwind Quintet, Saxophone Quartet, or Piano Duo. (In addition, the pianists also may have the opportunity to combine with the string quartet or woodwind quintet.) Chamber groups will participate in approximately four hours of coaching daily with faculty and will be highlighted in a chamber music concert on June 22. The remainder of camp will consist of continued participation with their chamber groups and with the Senior Camp band, orchestra or choir.

Audition requirements:

A $50.00 non-refundable processing fee is required with your application and recording. (If you are not accepted for Chamber Camp and would like to attend Senior Camp, the $50.00 will be applied toward tuition.)

Audition tapes must be postmarked by Apr. 2. Students will be notified by May 7.

All CDs/tapes should include two solo works in contrasting styles (an etude can substitute for one of the pieces). IN ADDITION, the following is also required:

Winds and Brass - Please use the CBDA All-State high school scales (available from www.cbda.org)

Strings - 2 three-octave scales: one major and one minor (melodic).

Singers - a chromatic scale demonstrating your full range.

Pianists: Piano students are selected by participating in the Sylvia Ghiglieri Piano Competition (to be held on Jan 31, 2010 at CSU Stanislaus - contact the Music Dept for more info). The winner of the senior competition will be offered a full scholarship to the Chamber Camp. Audition tapes will be considered if the winners of the competition are not able to come to camp (see requirements above).
