Accessible Technology Initiative
The California State University is committed to ensuring that all campus information resources and technologies are fully accessible for persons with disabilities. This includes web content, instructional materials, and the electronic and information technology products and services that enable their use. CSU Stanislaus students with disabilities are supported in achieving their educational goals by a combination of policies, procedures, technology support, and personal accommodation and support services.
Providing accessible information technology and resources is a shared responsibility of everyone on campus. It requires an ongoing institutional commitment and collaboration among faculty, disability services, academic and student service departments, and administrative office staff to ensure continued success. CSU Stanislaus demonstrates its commitment to achieving accessibility by establishing policies and taking specific actions to support legal and system-wide requirements for web accessibility, instructional materials accessibility, and accessible electronic and information technology procurement.
The Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 require that qualified individuals with disabilities be provided equal access to programs, services, or activities. California Government Code 11135 applies Section 508 of the 1973 Rehabilitation Act, as amended in 1998, to State entities and to the CSU. Section 508 was enacted to eliminate barriers in information technology, to make available new opportunities for people with disabilities, and to encourage development of technologies that will help achieve these goals. It should be noted that if achieving accessibility is either not possible or would constitute an undue burden plans to provide equally effective alternative access must be developed, documented, and communicated.
On September 28, 2006, the CSU Office of the Chancellor released coded memorandum AA 2006-41.pdf outlining a roadmap for campus implementation of CSU Executive Order No. 926 
which commits the CSU to make information technology resources and services accessible to all CSU students, faculty, staff, and the general public regardless of disability. A subsequent revision of the original coded memorandum AA-2007-04.pdf
The Accessible Technology Initiative defined by these documents identifies three priorities:
- Web accessibility
- Instructional materials accessibility
- Accessible electronic and information technology procurement
Staff and faculty drawn from offices and departments throughout the campus are assigned to address these priorities, with Cabinet-level coordination and support to assure that required policies, procedures, internal controls, and evaluations are in place and periodically reviewed for currency.
