| Distance Learning Director Brian Duggan speaks on Saluki expertise |
 |
Brian Duggan, Interim Director of Distance Learning in the Office of Information Technology, was one of six experts invited to speak at the Festival of the Saluki 2007 held in September at Jesus College in Cambridge, England.
Duggan and his wife, Wendy, own and show Salukis and are AKC judges for the breed, the elite hunting hound and show dog. The festival included the symposium at Cambridge, an art exhibit at the London Kennel Club, three dog shows, lure coursing where the dogs chase mechanical lures around a course, and a dinner at Losely Park, a stately Elizabethan mansion. People and their dogs from all over the world attended.
Duggan has been doing research for a book on Salukis that were first imported to England by the Victorian and Edwardian solders, travelers, and explorers who acquired them as pets from nomadic desert tribes during trips to the Middle East and other regions. |
