Dr. Wood is an associate professor in the Department of Criminal Justice. Dr. Wood has taught many undergraduate and graduate courses at Stan State including courses on research methods, policy and program evaluation, criminological theory, the history of police and prisons, crime victims, forensic psychology, and scientific evidence and the law. Beginning spring 2017 he will assume the role of director of the MACJ program. Dr. Wood has a Master of Arts in Forensic Psychology from the City University of New York’s (CUNY) John Jay College of Criminal Justice and Ph.D. in criminal justice from the CUNY Graduate Center. As a doctoral student studying prison oversight and reform in post-apartheid South Africa, he was the recipient of a U.S. Fulbright Student Award. Dr. Wood has worked in several research settings in New York City including the New York State Psychiatric Institute, NYU School of Social Work, Vera Institute of Justice, and as a post-doctoral fellow at the National Development and Research Institutes, Inc. His scholarly interests are in the areas of prison oversight mechanisms and prisoner violence as evidenced by publications in the International Criminal Justice Review and International Journal of Comparative and Applied Criminal Justice, International Journal of Forensic Mental Health,Crime and Delinquency, and The Prison Journal.
