The California State University Employee Update
Monday, September 21, 2009
Trustees will:
- Hear the 2010-11 fiscal year budget proposal. The budget calls for a State General Fund increase of $882 million above the current $2.33 billion budget. Under this plan, the CSU would seek the restoration of one-time cuts that were imposed by the state in 2009-10: a $255 million line-item veto and a $50 million reduction by the Legislature adopted in the original budget act of February 2009. The budget proposal also includes revenue assumptions based on the Higher Education Compact, a long-term agreement between the governor and the public university systems.
The budget plan also assumes $94 million in state funding to cover an estimated amount of fee revenue that would be produced by a 10 percent student fee increase. The total budget proposal would enable the CSU to restore some courses and services to students and provide compensation increases to employees.
