The University Fine Art Collection contains a wide variety of art objects, most of them donated to the University Art Gallery/Art Department to form a study collection for the benefit of students. The collection ranges from sculptural objects created in various cultures including Egypt, China, Japan, Persia, Africa, and Precolumbian Middle America. A particularly important aspect of the collection is a large group of prints from the Tamarind workshops that features innovative prints of historical interest. Additional works on paper include lithographs by Roy DeForest, Rudy Fernandez, and Richard Savini among others. These prints, as well as a Livre d’artiste by DeLoss McGraw, were produced under the auspices of the University Fine Art Press and are available for purchase. Beyond works on paper, the collection also includes a number of important California paintings by William Wendt, Will Sparks, and Frederick Schafer. Some works from the collection are on permanent display in the University Library.
