Cristina's Web Page

This web page is to be used after reading,

Little House in the Big Woods

by Laura Ingalls Wilder.

In the story, Little House in the Big Woods, Pa has many encounters with wolves. Many people today think negatively about wolves. Students will visit a couple of web sites devoted to wolves. They will then need to answer the following questions:

1. What is your personal belief towards wolves?

2. How does Pa deal with his encounters with wolves in Little House in the Big Woods?

3. List three things you have learned about wolves.

4. Has your impression changed after reading more about wolves?

Throughout the book, Little House in the Big Woods, harvesting, making and eating maple syrup is mentioned. This is an activity that involves all members of Laura's family. Find one section of the book and write how important this sweetener is to their diet. Think of a family activity that you do that involves more than one generation and write three paragraphs about it. Go to a web site based on maple syrup and write one thing you like to eat with it.

My class of third graders listened to this book as a daily read aloud. After visiting a website that contains an actual letter written by Laura Ingalls Wilder, my class will write a letter to a class of third graders in the year 2020. They will write about what subjects they study in school, about their school and some favorite things they like to do outside of class.
