2.1 Requirements
for the Education Specialist Preliminary Level I Credentials: Mild/Moderate and Moderate/Severe Disabilities

All candidates must meet the program admission requirements in Section 3 Admission Requirements of the Handbook. The following is a sequence of steps to obtain an Education Specialist Preliminary Level I Credential: Mild/Moderate and Moderate/Severe Disabilities.

1. Pass CBEST and Complete the Following Courses with a Grade of ‘B’ or Better:

Select one of the following:
EDSE/PSYC 4550 Practicum with Exceptional Children

2. Demonstrate the following:

a. Subject Matter Competence:

1. Pass one of the following CCTC approved examination

  • Elementary Level: CSET Multiple Subject
  • Middle and Secondary Level: CCTC-approved single subject exam (CCTC)

2. Subject Matter Preparation program in liberal studies or a single subject


b. Grade Point Average (GPA): Minimum 2.67 overall and "B" or better in all EDSE Courses

3. Submit a completed application to the Department of Advanced Studies in Education, Demergasso-Bava Hall, Room 348, and participate in the Admission Interview.

4. If an Offer of Admission is Made, Complete the Following Courses with a Grade of "B" or Better

8. Participate in Exit Interview. If Exit interviewe successfully passed, meet with Program Faculty to establish direction for the Professional Level II Induction Plan.

9. If RICA successfully passed, CSU Stanislaus recommends the candidate for the Preliminary Level I Education Specialist Credential.

(Coursework total of 29-39 units + pre-requisites)
