At CSU Stanislaus, Chemistry majors will utilize the scientific method to ask questions, design and perform experiments, and to devise and evolve theories on chemical phenomena. Students will also use modern methods of chemical synthesis, characterization, and analysis, while utilizing modern laboratory instrumentation in their experimental work.
The Chemistry degree programs are designed for students seeking to enter professions requiring a range of moderate training in chemistry. Examples are technical sales writing, chemical patent law, library work, high school teaching, medicine, optometry, dentistry, medical technology, pharmacy, physical therapy, and veterinary medicine.

The Chemicals in Your Life
Basic chemical principles will be used to describe the nature of various prob-lems and processes important to con-temporary society. These would include application of chemistry in agriculture, health, the environment, and the home.
- An understanding of atoms, ions, and molecules and their relationship to chemical and physical properties of matter
- Hands-on experience working with modern instrumentation
- A firm knowledge of major class-es of chemicals, their reactivity, and their physical properties
- The ability to evaluate the quality and usefulness of data in reaching a conclusion
