Generally, students who want to become tutors usually must have passed the WPST and attained junior level status. Unless they have received formal writing tutor training elsewhere, all incoming tutors are required to enroll in and attend English 4600, Tutorial Projects. This course will provide initial and on-going tutor training. Because tutoring writing is complex, training in composition theory, tutor observation, and guided practice are essential.
A goal of the Writing Center is to become more interdisciplinary; therefore, students in all majors are encouraged to take English 4600 and become Writing Center tutors
