Chapter Definitions

Chapter 30

Basic Eligibility: Veteran MUST have served in the armed forces after July 1, 1985 for two or three years of continuous service. 
Veteran MUST have contributed to the educational fund for 12 months ($100 per month).
Veteran MUST have received an honorable discharge.
To Enroll: The veteran will complete and return the following paperwork to the Veterans Affairs office in MSR 120:
Application for Educational Benefits, VA Form 22-1990
Copy of DD-214 (Member 4 Copy).
Copy of $600 buy-up, if applicable.
CSU Stanislaus Veterans Major Requirements Form (Educational Plan). This form is available at the Veteran Affairs Office in MSR 120.
EACH SEMESTER, the student will fill out a YELLOW CARD and return to the Veterans Affairs Office in MSR 120.
Changes: ALL CHANGES to your schedule (adds, drops, class cancellations, and/or withdrawals) must be reported to the Veteran Affairs office in MSR 120 by the veteran ASAP.
ANY CHANGES to the major or if transferring in from another school requires the veteran to complete and return VA Form 22-1995 to the Veteran Affairs office in MSR 120.
Tutor: If a veteran needs a tutor, they should contact the Veteran Affairs office at (209) 667-3081 or in person at MSR 120. 
Complete and return VA Form 22-1990 to the Veteran Affairs office in MSR 120.
The veteran must be attending at least 1/2 time.

Chapter 31

Basic Eligibility: Veteran MUST have received an honorable discharge.
Veteran MUST have a 20% (or greater) service-connected disability.
As a result of the veteran's disability, vocational rehabilitation is required for gainful employment.
For more information, contact the Vocational Rehabilitation program by calling (800) 827-1000.
To Enroll: The veteran will supply copies of following paperwork to the Veteran Affairs Office in MSR 120:
Copy of DD-214 (Member 4 Copy)
CSU Stanislaus Veterans Major Requirements Form (Educational Plan). This form is available at the Veterans Affairs Office in MSR 120.
EACH SEMESTER, the student will fill out a YELLOW CARD and return to the Veteran Affairs Office in MSR 120.
Changes: ALL CHANGES to your schedule (major/minor, adds, drops, class cancellations, and/or withdrawals) must be approved by the Veteran Affairs Office in MSR 120.
Tutor: If a veteran needs a tutor, they should contact the Veteran Affairs Office at (209) 667-3081 or in MSR 120. 
The veteran must be attending at least 1/2 time.

Chapter 33

Basic Eligibility: Veteran MUST have served at least 90 aggregate days on active duty after September 10, 2001, and is still on active duty or was honorably -

    - discharged from the active duty; or

    - released from active duty and placed on the retired list; or

       temporary disability retired list; or

    - released from active duty and transferred to the Fleet Reserve;

      or Fleet Marine Corps Reserve; or

    - released from the active duty for further service in a reserve

       component of the Armed Forces.
You may also be eligible if you were honorably discharged from active dity for a service connected disability and you served 30 continuous days after September 10, 2001.
To Enroll: Starting May 1, 2009, VA will begin accepting applications for the Post 9/11 GI Bill online. The veteran will complete and return the following paperwork to the Veterans Affairs office in MSR 120:
Copy of Certificate of Eligibility
Copy of DD-214 (Member 4 Copy)
CSU Stanislaus Veterans Major Requirements Form (Educational Plan). This form is available at the Veteran Affairs Office in MSR 120.
EACH SEMESTER, the student will fill out a YELLOW CARD and return to the Veterans Affairs Office in MSR 120.
Changes: ALL CHANGES to your schedule (adds, drops, class cancellations, and/or withdrawals) must be reported to the Veteran Affairs office in MSR 120 by the veteran ASAP.
ANY CHANGES to the major or if transferring in from another school requires the veteran to complete and return VA Form 22-1995 to the Veteran Affairs office in MSR 120.

Chapter 35

Basic Eligibility: Spouse or children of a veteran that is deceased or has a 100% service-connected disability.
To Enroll: The spouse/dependent must complete and return the following paperwork to the Veteran Affairs Office in MSR 120.
Application for Survivor's and Dependent's Educational Assistance, VA Form 22-5490.  ** Important!!   When completing the 22-5490, please insert the veteran's social security number or C Number.
EACH SEMESTER, the student will fill out a YELLOW CARD and return to the Veteran Affairs Office in MSR 120.
Changes: ALL CHANGES to the spouse/dependent's schedule (adds, drops, class cancellations, and/or withdrawals) must be approved by the Veteran Affairs Office in MSR 120.
ANY CHANGES to the major or if transferring in from another school requires the spouse/dependent to complete and return VA Form 22-5490 to the Veteran Affairs Office in MSR 120.
Tutor: If a spouse/dependent needs a tutor, they should contact the Veteran Affairs Office at (209) 667-3081 or in MSR 120.
Complete and return VA Form 22-1990 to the Veterans Affairs Office in MSR 120.
The spouse/dependent must be attending at least 1/2 time.

Chapter 1606 (Reservist)

Basic Eligibility: Member MUST be in drill status to use benefits.
Member MUST have a signed six-year contract after July 1, 1985.
Member MUST have completed 180 days of duty in the selected reserve or guard. 
Member must have a GED or High School diploma.
To Enroll: The member will complete and return the following paperwork to the Veteran Affairs Office in MSR 120.
Application for Educational Benefits VA Form 22-1990.
Copy of Notice of Basic Eligibility (NOBE)-obtained from member's unit.
Copy of Reserves/Guard Kicker paperwork.
EACH SEMESTER, the student will fill out a YELLOW CARD and return to the Veteran Affairs Office in MSR 120.
Changes: ANY CHANGES to the major or if transferring in from another school require the veteran to complete and return VA Form 22-1995 to the Veteran Affairs Office in MSR 120.

Chapter 1607 Reserve Educational Assistance Program (REAP)

Basic Eligibility: Member MUST be a reservist who was activated for at least 90 days after September 11, 2001.
To Enroll: The member will complete and return the following paperwork to the Veteran Affairs Office in MSR 120.
Application for the Educational Benefits VA Form 22-1990 (write "REAP" in section one).
Copies of all DD 214’s
Copies of all orders for the period(s) you will use to claim eligibility.
EACH SEMESTER, the student will fill out a YELLOW CARD and return to the Veteran Affairs Office in MSR 120.
Changes: ANY CHANGES to the major or if transferring in from another school require the veteran to complete and return VA Form 22-1995 to the Veteran Affairs Office in MSR 120.
Tutor: If a member needs a tutor, they should contact Veteran Affairs Office at (209) 667-3081 or in MSR 120. 
Complete and return VA Form 22-1990 to the Veterans Affairs Office in MSR 120.
The member must be attending at least 1/2 time.
