IRS Form 1098-T, Tuition Payment Statement, is an informational statement required by the IRS to assist the student and the IRS in determining if the student qualifies for the Hope Scholarship or Lifetime Learning Tax Credit, the University is required to indicate whether the student was enrolled at least half time for one semester during the calendar year. The IRS also requires the University to indicate if the student was enrolled exclusively in graduate level courses. If this indicator is marked, it could mean the student is not eligible for the Hope Scholarship credit.
The University must mail this form to every student by January 31, as required by the IRS. Form 1098-T is mailed to the permanent address on file with the Registrar as of December 31.
Call the university and explain what information you feel is incorrect. If Form 1098-T does contain incorrect information, a corrected form will be issued. Students must update their SSN and/or mailing address by December 30th to receive a 1098-T Form the following year.
If you don't receive your 1098-T in the mail after January 31st you can print a duplicate from the website listed below or call ECSI at 1-866-428-1098.
