Hi my name is Jessica Padilla, I am a first generation college student and I am also a first generation Mexican-American. I transferred from San Joaquin Delta College and am currently a senior. Why did you choose CSU Stanislaus?
I choose Stanislaus because I love that the campus is small and beautiful. What I really like about the university is that the classes are small, so you get to meet everyone in class. I also like knowing that my professors know who I am.
Why did you choose to take classes at Stockton Center?
I choose to take classes at the Stockton center because of the convenience to where I live.
What advice would you give a prospective student?
The advice I would give a student would be to get involved in school! Join clubs, work on campus or join an organization. Stanislaus is a great place to get involved in your community! Not only do you get to meet a lot of amazing people, but you also get to learn a lot about your self.
What has been your favorite academic or student life experience so far?
I have had a lot of great experiences at Stanislaus, but one that I truly love is being involved in Psi Chi. I am currently the secretary at Psi Chi and it has taught me so much about leadership skills.
What is your career objective?
My career objective is to be a counselor in a community college. I am looking forward to being able to help future students with career decisions and real life concerns.
What clubs, sports, and activities have you participated in?
I am a member of Phi Kappa Phi, an honor society that I am very proud to be part of. I am also involved in Psi Chi, L.U.L.A.C., Faculty Mentor Program, Student Leadership Program and A Day of Hope.
Who is your most influential personal and/or University mentor?
Dr. Bell and Dr. Wallace were the first professors I meet at Stanislaus, they made me feel so welcomed at this university and for this I am very grateful. Dr. Black has also been very influential, I have learned so much about counseling because of him; he is a great professor.
