Sarina N. Kumar
BS of Chemistry
Chemistry with a Biology Minor
Raised a California Girl, I thought I was close to invincible—who knows, maybe I still think that. I am the most goal orientated and strong willed young woman I could wish myself to be. I can thank my wonderful little group for that: my parents, brother, and boyfriend. I dream big, not to reach the stars, but to make a difference in someone else's life.
Why did you choose CSU Stanislaus?
I chose CSU Stanislaus because I can't imagine living away from those close to my heart. Moving away from my little brother would be like moving away from my "partner in crime"—I couldn't do it. So I chose CSU Stanislaus both for its beautiful campus, and its closeness to home.
What advice would you give a prospective student?
Dream bigger than you could ever imagine. You can only succeed as much as you dream. Never let others discourage you, because the harder you try, the farther you'll go.
What has been your favorite academic or student life experience so far?
College life as a whole is very different. You learn about yourself and who you really are. My favorite experience about college has been meeting new people. Everyone is different, with different majors, and it is the most interesting thing to meet new, diverse people and make new friendships.
What is your career objective?
I developed a passionate love of Psychology after I took it as a General Education class. So I decided that I would continue on as a chemistry major—I might even double major in Biology—and hope to one day become a neurologist.
What clubs, sports, and activities have you participated in?
I am a part of ISA and will be joining the Pre Health society this fall.
Who is your most influential personal and/or University mentor?
The most influential university professor to me has to be Dr. Chad Stessman, Ph.D. He is seriously by far one of the most amazing people I have ever met. He makes me feel 100% myself when I'm around him, he makes questions easy to ask, and you can tell he legitimately cares.
