Biography
My name is Dustin Donnell, but everyone knows me as Boomer. Long story short, my parents wanted to name me after Boomer Esiason (a quarterback for the Cincinnati Bengals in 1988). I grew up in Merced, CA and am very grateful I was able to grow up around many different people and diversities. I came to Stanislaus because of the athletic opportunity I was provided for me to play baseball and attend classes at a respected school of business. I am a New Student Co-Coordinator for student orientation. My life goal is to be a Collegiate Coach and be able to teach young adults.
Why did you choose CSU Stanislaus?
I knew I always wanted to venture out on my own and learn the difficulties of living not under my parents care. I received a call from the University’s baseball coach (Kenny Leonesio) once I received my high school diploma. Two months after keeping in contact with him, I signed my letter of intent due to the quick and steady relationship I had built with the coaches and staff.
What advice would you give a prospective student?
Don’t be afraid to express yourself, and be able to be spontaneous enough to meet others. College is a time to meet new people, broaden your horizons, and build a stronger, more diverse background.
What has been your favorite academic or student life experience so far?
Being part of the baseball team has been a very fulfilling experience. We made playoffs for the first time in five years and even had the honor of being ranked the No. 1 team in the nation by the NCAA Division II coaches association.
What is your career objective?
My career objective is to achieve a master’s degree in business and teach part time at a university, as well be able to be a head coach of a collegiate baseball program.
Do you plan to attend graduate school?
I intend to attend graduate school to receive a master’s in business management or business marketing.
What clubs, sports, and activities have you participated in?
I am a member of the Cal State Stanislaus baseball team and also sit on the Student Athlete Advisory Committee representing the baseball team.
