Biography

I was born in Brawley, CA and lived in the Imperial Valley my first 10 years. My mother and I relocated to Riverbank, CA, with my brother where we currently reside. I graduated from Riverbank High School in 2006 and enrolled at CSU Stanislaus, my first choice for higher education. I started as a Business Major but then later changed to Criminal Justice. Now I am focused on successfully completing my studies and am very eager to start my career in the Criminal Justice field. I currently work for the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) and I am very pleased with it because as a student I am also part of the EOP. Thanks to the academic support that I receive from this program and the values, encouragement, support, and positive attitude that I receive from my family I am completing my goal of obtaining a higher education.

Why did you choose CSU Stanislaus?

I chose CSU Stanislaus because of its small classes, one to one communication with the professors, nice campus scenery, and its short distance from home. The size of the campus and its location for me is great because I grew up in a small community and it feels like home.

What advice would you give a prospective student?

Enjoy college life as much as possible because this experience is only lived once. Try to meet as many people as you can because it’s amazing what you can learn from them. Get to know your professors because they are always more than willing to help you out. Know how to manage your time and have your priorities set. Even though at times college will seem very difficult, stay strong and positive. Don’t let anything bring you down because at the end the benefits will be great.

What has been your favorite academic or student life experience so far?

My favorite student life experience has been the Summer Bridge Program. Thanks to this program I got a clear view on how college life would be. It enabled me to prepare for the placement exams, meet new people, and most of all feel more confident about my college journey.

What is your career objective?

My main career objective is to eventually become an FBI Agent. Right now, what’s really catching my attention is to start out as a probation officer and work in adult and juvenile supervision programs. Another objective that has crossed my mind is to maybe along the way teach at a university.

Do you plan to attend graduate school?

I do plan to attend graduate school and obtain my Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice.

What clubs, sports, and activities have you participated in?

Since I have been busy, I have not participated in any club, sports, or activities. This year I am really looking forward in joining a club or joining an intramural sport so I can fully experience college life.

Who is your most influential personal and/or University mentor?

The most influential person in my life is my mother. She is the reason why I am here and accomplishing my goals. She is the only one who can bring me up from whatever situation when I am feeling down. Thanks to her encouragement and support I have learned how to become a stronger person and accomplish any goal that comes into my mind. Serah Martinez (EOP Admissions Coordinator) has been a very influential University leader. Thanks to her help and academic support throughout my whole college experience, I am on the right track for completing my college degree.
