Biography
I am the first in my family to attempt a CSU and graduate from high school. I am Hispanic, speak fluently in both English and Spanish, and a Catholic. I was raised in the small town of Newman where my family and I currently reside. When I was seven years old, I helped my parents pick out cherries and apricots. I will never forget how hard it was to work out in the hot sun very tired. From that day on, I decided to try hard in school and obtain a better education to not work in the fields. My parents have struggled and still do to this day. Life has taught me to become a successful individual with ambitions to reach all my dreams and goals. I’m very thankful to God because I know he has helped me overcome hard obstacles. I am a friendly, outgoing, and hard-working girl.
Why did you choose CSU Stanislaus?
I chose Stanislaus because I really liked everything about the school, from the small class sizes to the short distance to home and the beautiful scenery. I wanted to have more interaction with the faculty, and CSU Stanislaus has given me that opportunity. I will never forget all the help and advice that my former Spanish teacher Mayte Ramirez gave me to attend Stan State.
What advice would you give a prospective student?
I would advise students to be well organized, study, and be positive.
What has been your favorite academic or student life experience so far?
My favorite academic life experience so far was to be in the Summer Bridge program. This program was led by extraordinary people like Fernando Beltrán and others. I had so much fun throughout the three weeks because I met new students who were very outgoing and kind. The classes were very helpful because they prepared me for the entrance exam.
What is your career objective?
Social worker/ Advocating for non-immigrants
What clubs, sports, and activities have you participated in?
I was more active during my high school years at Orestimba in the varsity girl’s soccer for four years. I was also involved in the Hispanic Youth Leadership Council club (HYLC) as an officer for four years. Currently I'm not in any sports because time doesn't allow it. My time is spent between classes, work, and making time to do my homework. But my plan this year is to make time for the HYLC club.
Who is your most influential personal and/or University mentor?
My Educational Opportunity Program advisor Fernando Beltrán. He has generously guided me during my time at Stanislaus. He encouraged me to have two majors and obtain my masters degree. He always believed in me and advised to not look so much in the perfect letter grade but to worry more about learning the material. When I was stressing out in one class he listened and advised me to keep my head up and try my hardest because he believed in me. “Thank you Beltrán for all your help.” My parents have been there for me in the good and bad times. They want me to obtain a better education because they couldn’t. My goal is to make them proud of me.
