Biography:
I was born and raised in the Los Angeles area and attended California State University, Northridge for my undergraduate education. In 1981, I left Southern California to attend graduate school at Washington State University where I earned a master's and doctoral degrees in history. Following my graduation in 1987, CSU Stanislaus hired me and I have been here ever since. Among my publications, VIVA BASEBALL!, which originally appeared in 1998 and, next year, will come out in its third edition, has brought me the most notoriety.

Why do students choose CSU Stanislaus?
Good students look to be challenged. They have intellectual curiousity and it is they whom the University should welcome. I certainly do not want students who expect to coast or are enrolled here simply because they enjoy the university atmosphere. In short, if they had a difficult time while here, but graduate with a quality education, then it's the latter that matters most and what they will take with them for the rest of their lives.

In the larger context of the expanding student body at our school, I am a strong proponent of quality over quantity. Increased enrollments and high technology gimmicks, alone, do not make for a quality university. Good scholarship on the part of the faculty, ambitious students, and ample library resources are the components that earn respect in the academic world.
