Biography
Dr. Marjorie Chan received her BS degree in Business Administration from California State University at Fresno, and her MBA and Ph.D. degrees from UCLA. Her publications have appeared in the Journal of Management Case Studies, IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management, Journal of Small Business & Entrepreneurship, International Journal of Case Studies and Research, Management Research News, Business Journal, International Journal of Organizational Analysis and the Journal of Business Ethics. Dr. Chan has also cases and articles published in books on management policy and strategy, current topics in management, small business management, and entrepreneurship. Dr. Chan has presented papers in both national and international conferences held in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Greece, Korea, Portugal, and the United Kingdom.
Dr. Chan received 11 "Dean's Office Monetary Journal Publication Awards" for 11 refereed journal articles published during 1995 through 2005. She was thrice nominated for the University's Outstanding Research, Scholarship and Creative Activity Professor Award. Also, Dr. Chan received five Leadership Awards for 1997, 1998, 1999, 2005, and 2006 from the International Conference on Advances in Management. Dr. Chan was a Center for International Business Education and Research (CIBEAR) Faculty Scholarship Award recipient from the University of Southern California for the 1994 Pacific Rim Management Program titled "Doing Business in Southeast Asia." Dr. Chan has been a board member of the following: International Journal of Organizational Analysis from 1998 to 6/07 and CSU Stanislaus College of Business Administration's Family Business Center from the spring of 2001 to 6/04. She has served as an elected board member of the Annual International Conference on Advances in Management for 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007. She has just been re-elected to the board in July of 2007.

How do students succeed in your class?
They have to know the materials presented in the course, and apply what they have learned in their written and oral group assignments. To succeed in my class, students need to have the following:
- Very good oral and written communication skills
- Great analytical ability
- Ability to work well in teams
- A sense of responsibility to get work done.
What brought you to CSU Stanislaus?
I received all my university degrees from the state of California, and I was keen in serving a state university in California.
If you were not teaching, what other career do you see yourself in?
If I were not teaching, I see myself as a Management Consultant or Executive in the corporate world.
Describe a former student who has attained professional success.
Years ago, Jessie Garza-Roderick took two MBA courses from me, and she did an MBA project with me as well. Jessie pursued her education further and earned an Ed.D. degree from the University of the Pacific. Currently, she is an Associate Dean at San Joaquin Delta College's Tracy Learning Center. Prior to this position, she worked as Director of CSU Stanislaus' Stockton Center for nine years. Jessie and her husband own several pharmacies in Stockton, Modesto and Merced.
