Edward Erickson

Department

Economics

Biography

I joined the faculty of CSU Stanislaus in 1970 and serve as Professor and Chair of the Economics Department. I teach courses in Intermediate Macroeconomics, Money and Banking, Economics of Investment and Urban Economics. I taught urban and regional planning for the Master in Public Administration program.

My background has provided a unique combination of factors which affect urban and regional planning and the dynamic Central Valley economy. All of these topics have provided broad base background for the Agricultural Studies Program, which is critical for understanding how our local economic base will evolve.

What have you learned from your students?

Students can have unique experiences and viewpoints from which you can learn. One is never finished learning. Everyone has economic questions although their form may vary.

Why do students choose CSU Stanislaus?

Close to home, opportunity for individual attention working with professors for those who seek it.

How do students succeed in your class?

Follow the basic guidelines: attend class, do the assigned reading, don't be afraid to ask questions and don't try to cut study time short. Finally, don't overextend yourself in working, study or play, resulting in a continual sleep deficit.

What brought you to CSU Stanislaus?

Wanted to stay in California and be a part of the CSU system. First department chair had attended the same graduate school.

If you were not teaching, what other career do you see yourself in?

Financial planning, analysis or a related field.

Describe a former student who has attained professional success.

One graduate has gone on to become a senior vice president for Bank of America with significant lending responsibilities. Another has gone on to become an assistant professor with the University of California. The scope is truly broad when you see another graduate working with the Australian government promoting their business/trade interests in North America.
