Biography
Born and raised in China, I did not study English until my junior year in high school. I went to Tulsa, Oklahoma for my senior year and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School. Following one year of study in ShenZhen University in China, I came to CSUS in 2003 and decided to spend my four years of college life here. This is my last year in CSUS, and I'm just glad that I made the decision in the first place.
Why did you choose CSU Stanislaus?
Different from most other universities I have visited in California and Oklahoma, CSUS offers small size classes, usually 15-20 students, where the professors can actually call students by their names. People are very friendly in this community. I love it.
What advice would you give a prospective student?
You never know if the shoes fit you or not before trying them on. Same theory applies here. I strongly recommend you to come and visit our beautiful campus and see if the campus fits you, or if you fit in this campus.
What has been your favorite academic or student life experience so far?
Besides the endless studying that students have to do, they can go join the clubs on campus - there are over a hundred clubs on campus! If you can't find one, you can form one yourself! As for me, I'm the president of World Student Association, member of Genetics Club, Chi-Alpha Christian Fellowship, and A Day of Hope. Therefore, it gives me the chance to explore outside of the academic field.
What is your career objective?
master's and doctorate in Genetics
What clubs, sports, and activities have you participated in?
As I mentioned above, I'm the president of World Student Association, member of Genetics Club, Chi-Alpha Christian Fellowship, and A Day of Hope. With different groups, I did quite a lot of community services such as feed the homeless, deliver turkey baskets to needed families before Thanksgiving, take care of the elders; meanwhile, I organized and participated in a lot of outdoor trips, such as to Sequoia National Park, Santa Cruz, and San Francisco.
Who is your most influential personal and/or University mentor?
Honestly, I love all my professors who have taught me any classes; they are really nice and always there when I needed help. But talking about the most influential people, I pick Dr. James Youngblom and Dr. Janey Youngblom in our department because they are the ones who helped me make the decision to study Genetics continue on this path in my graduate program.
