Biography
I was born in Merced, CA and have lived in Winton since the age of 10. I graduated from Atwater High School in 2004 with honors. I am the only daughter of two incredibly hard-working parents who migrated to the U.S. from Mexico. In December, I completed my undergraduate work in Sociology and Spanish and hope to enroll in UC Santa Cruz in the fall of 2010 to pursue a doctorate in Sociology.
Why did you choose CSU Stanislaus?
Initially, the close proximity to my hometown attracted me to CSU Stanislaus. However, once I enrolled I enjoyed the small campus atmosphere because it allowed me to not only establish relationships with faculty members, but also create close connections with other students.
What advice would you give a prospective student?
Choosing a major/discipline is an important decision because it will directly affect your life trajectory, s make sure to explore all your options before making a definitive decision.
What has been your favorite academic or student life experience?
I truly enjoyed being a member of the Sociology club because we focused on performing philanthropic works in the local community, but by far my favorite academic experience was simply being a Sociology major because I love learning about social interaction and the most pressing social issues.
What is your career objective?
I have not yet made a final decision, but I have contemplated becoming a Sociology professor.
What clubs, sports, and activities have you participated in?
I was secretary of the Sociology Club and a member of the University Honors Program.
Who is your most influential personal and/or University mentor?
My personal mentors are my parents because they instilled a strong work ethic through example. My University mentors have been Dr. Angel A. Sanchez and Dr. Ann Strahm because both have taught me a great deal about Sociology, but most importantly, about setting goals for myself that I would have never considered possible had it not been for their guidance and support.
