Biography

My name is Katrice Riley and I grew up in the Bay Area. I graduated from Berean Christian High School in Walnut Creek, CA in the Class of 2006. I then began attending California State University, Stanislaus in Fall of 2006. I am currently a Business Major with a Concentration in Management and Track in Entrepreneurship. I plan on getting my bachelor's degree at CSU Stan and then receiving an AOS in Baking and Pastry Arts at the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York. Upon completion at both schools, my final plan is to open my own bakery in southern California.

Why did you choose CSU Stanislaus?

I fell in love with CSU Stanislaus when I saw how beautiful the campus was. I first visited the campus on my way home from a 10 day college tour of every school imaginable in southern California with my mom. We decided on a whim to stop at the campus just to check it off our long list as “visited”. But when we arrived here and walked around the campus with its beautiful scenery and natural inhabitants (including the infamous ducks) I was impressed. We were told of all the accomplishments of CSU Stanislaus, but when I saw the dorms I was sold! I knew I wanted to consider going to this school and also living on campus. Then, after three more visits, it was obvious that this was the place for me.

What advice would you give a prospective student?

To pursue a career that you are passionate about and will enjoy. Even if it is not what everyone seems to be doing and is not the most popular career path to follow, but will make you happy, then ultimately that is the most important criteria to meet.

Also I would advise to take as many classes outside of your major that you may be interested in learning about, but not necessarily pursuing, because it will make school much more enjoyable and give more of a variety to your knowledge and accomplishments. Also, to participate in as many activities and clubs as possible.

What has been your favorite academic or student life experience so far?

My favorite part has been living in the dorms my freshman year and meeting so many new and interesting people throughout my academic journey. Living with people who are all in the same situation as you makes the transition into your newly found independence much easier and enjoyable. You will develop lifetime friendships and memories.

What is your career objective?

I plan to utilize my Business degree and Baking and Pastry Arts degree to open my own Bakery. My passion is cake decorating, so I would ultimately like to reach as many people as I can and be known for the talent that I have with something that I love to do.

What clubs, sports, and activities have you participated in?

I plan to go to Australia through the Study Abroad program at CSU Stanislaus before I graduate to experience the culture and experience of living in another country and to ultimately appreciate the one that I live in more.

Who is your most influential personal and/or University mentor?

My mom and my grandma are the most influential people in my life. They have always encouraged my academic progress and are proud of me in all of my accomplishments no matter how big or small. They are what push me to do my best in life because they believe I can accomplish anything and everything that I put my mind to.
