Biography
Hello reader (yes that’s you). My name is Desmond like it says above. I am a 21 year young active senior here at CSU Stanislaus. I have many hobbies including ping pong and movie going and love being a social dragonfly (not a butterfly). Keeping busy is my motto and it is one that has allowed me to meet many people from every walk of life. So moving along now, hopefully I’ll get the pleasure of meeting you too. Later.
Why did you choose CSU Stanislaus?
Well when I was a freshman starting college I wanted to get away from home and being from Southern California, Stanislaus gave me that opportunity. Stanislaus had the convenience of being close enough to go home and visit but far enough away to stretch my wings and grow as I started life on my own.
What advice would you give a prospective student?
Dive in!! There is so much to experience here from the social to the academic and everything in between. If you choose to make Stanislaus your college, come eager and ready to explore. I have found that just when you think you’ve learned and experienced everything you thought you possibly could, there’s something even more awesome right around the corner.
What has been your favorite academic or student life experience so far?
My favorite student life experience so far would have to be living on campus. I’ve met so many new people and made friends that I know I’ll have for a lifetime. Aside from just the social side of living, the networking that I’ve managed to accomplish during my stay here on campus is something that benefits me everyday.
What is your career objective?
My career goal is to become a public speaker and professional activities coordinator. I love interacting with people and creating opportunities for them to bring out the best skills and traits that they have to offer the world around them. To inspire positive change mixed in what makes you YOU is what I press for everyday.
What clubs, sports, and activities have you participated in?
When it comes to activities, I try to do a little bit of everything and always seek out new adventures. I ran track here for two years, I’ve been an ASI senator, Village Varsity Mentor, ran for homecoming king, done theatre, and for the past four years have been the coordinator for the New Student Orientation program…just to name a few things.
Who is your most influential personal and/or University mentor?
There are many people who form a very intricate foundation that have given me the opportunity to be the best Stanislaus Warrior that I can be. With that being said, there is one who has truly been a very positive influential personal mentor in my life. Her name is Pauline Telya, and she is the First Year Success Coordinator here at the university, and greater than any title that I bestow upon here as an excellent mentor she has also become a wonderful friend. From personal setbacks to moments of triumph and accolades, Pauline has been the one influence that has kept my ship on course, and when I complete my tenure here at Stanislaus I will owe a large part of my success to her. Thank you.
