Biography
I am 23 years old, hailing from the cowboy capital of the World, Oakdale, CA. I graduated from Johansen High School in the top 5%. I played volleyball, basketball and ran track, receiving MVP in all three. Rodeo is a family heritage that has been passed down many generations. My uncle is a world champion calf roper and I follow in his success. I am currently the 2006 Miss Rodeo Grand Nationals, as well as the 2006 Miss Rodeo Clovis. While attending school and working towards my degrees, I work for In-Shape Health Clubs as a personal trainer. I am so thankful that the Lord has blessed me with so many opportunities.
Why did you choose CSU Stanislaus?
I chose CSU Stanislaus because of its location close to my family as well as its great camaraderie of people on campus. The quality of education that I have received does not equal the tuition that I have paid. I could have gone to a UC and paid a lot more for the same education. I also chose CSU Stanislaus because of the recruiting staff they have. Efren Galvan was my recruiter and he treated me like a real person and made me feel that welcomed as a freshman.
What advice would you give a prospective student?
Stan State has so much to offer, so get involved with as many activities as you can. There is always something happening and there are great support systems amongst the students to help you along the way. And just know that when things get tough, just keep on keepin' on.
What has been your favorite academic or student life experience so far?
There are so many experiences to choose from. Stan State has such a wide variety, from the Swing Dance club to the marketing club. But I must tell you one that brings a smile to my face. While working on my minor in biology, I had a field study of wood ducks. We worked with the Wildlife Fish and Game Department monitoring the wood ducks in the early spring. It was great, I had to climb trees (I fell out of one) and hike through the mud. We looked inside the boxes to count the eggs, but sometimes we were surprised to find other species. These included owls, rats, lizards and ants. It was always a surprise what you would find. I will never forget this experience because not many people have a chance to do a live study.
What clubs, sports, and activities have you participated in?
-Rodeo - although Stan State does not have a team.
-Kickboxing- karate and kickboxing are great activities to relieve stress after finals.
-Chi Alpha- Christian club on campus
-College campus Republicans - Who doesn't love politics?
-Community service- Central Valley Blood Bank
Special kids Rodeos
Hearts and Hooves
Mission trips with my church
Who is your most influential personal and/or University mentor?
Dr. Bill Ruud has been the most influential person here at Stan State. I had him for Management theory and practice. He truly has a passion for education which is evident in his classes. I love the way he teaches because he believes that all his students will be the top CEOs or managers of successful companies. He gives great advice on how to handle real-life situations with grace and how to be a respected and humble authority. He is able to light a fire in his students, as well as being a person who puts value in running a business with high morals and ethics. His lectures are very enjoyable to listen to because he is a dynamic speaker. I have never retained so much from a single class before, but I know what I have learned in his class will stick with me for a lifetime.
