Biography
I am an 18-year-old kid who loves to learn and can't decide among about a dozen different fields of study. Physics and philosophy, English and music and zoology and medicine and psychology and more -- I want to know all of them. Books are my friends; television is evil. Out of all the places I've lived, I have to say that Cedar City, Utah, is my favorite. Currently I live in Modesto with my parents, three brothers, two sisters, two dogs, and 13 birds, and catch the bus to Stan State every weekday morning.
Why did you choose CSU Stanislaus?
It was closer than Princeton, and when you're aiming for master's degrees and Ph.D.s, nobody really cares which four-year college you attended.
What advice would you give a prospective student?
Keep your grades up. Way up. Really. The government likes it when you do that, and sometimes they'll give you money for it. And everybody likes free money, right? :)
To be more realistic, I would say that you should know yourself, even if you don't know yet what it is that you want to do. Do you really want to go someplace far away from home? On the other end of the scale, do you really want to stay? What kind of classes can you take that will fit in with your study habits and social life? You need to be ready to make decisions regarding your academic and social patterns.
Last, but definitely not least: pay attention to the professors. Make friends if you can. They usually know what they're talking about.
What has been your favorite academic or student life experience so far?
I would say challenging myself to write a particularly difficult, but very rewarding, paper. That's an isolated incident, though. In general, I enjoy hanging out in the Lounge, drinking tea, baking cookies, and filling out strange questionnaires...
What is your career objective?
I really don't know yet...too many choices.
What clubs, sports, and activities have you participated in?
On campus? None. On the other hand, I'm an active participant in a puppet team and have been a leader in my church youth group for some years.
Who is your most influential personal and/or University mentor?
I'll let you know when I find out.
Really, I've just reached the end of my first semester. I don't know who may or may not be the most influential over the next few years.
