Why did you choose CSU Stanislaus?
CSU Stanislaus offered the degree I was planning to pursue, and it was local. Working as a university ambassador, I soon realized how beautiful our campus really was, and most importantly the different programs the campus offered.
What does ‘learning’ mean to you, as it pertains to a college environment?
In college, learning to study is key to being successful. Some students find it easier to study alone and others in groups. I have found that I can learn better in groups, because if one person doesn’t know the answer, someone else is bound to. And if not, then the whole group can work together to find the right answer. Everyone is different, and finding what works for you is the most important thing.
Who is your most influential personal and/or university mentor? Why?
Carolina Alfaro, an admissions counselor here at CSU Stanislaus. Anyone who knows Carolina can agree that she is a person who will help anyone in any way she possibly can. She’s the type of person who if you ask for a hand, she will give a whole arm and a leg. To Caro, helping people is something she simply always does, without expecting anything in return. To me, it has made all the difference in the world. I’ve grown to have great amount respect for her, and hopefully one day I can repay her for all the great things she has done for me.
What clubs, sports, and activities in which have you participated? Any fun/memorable experiences?
I have played soccer for about seven years. I also played intramural indoor soccer. I was a part of the Hispanic Youth Leadership Council. I was president of the club my last year in high school and a junior advisor once I graduated. It was a great program to bring awareness of higher education for high school students. I was also part of Los Hijos del Campo, a Hispanic-based theatre group at CSU Stanislaus. We are all amateur actors whose purpose is to raise money for Hispanic scholarships through the funds we receive in our plays. I also have a great passion for boxing, a very tough mental and physical sport that requires a lot of discipline and dedication.
What makes you tick? What do you do for fun?
I love to spend time with my family. I enjoy exercising and spending time at the gym to stay in shape. I also enjoy running when it’s not too hot.
How would you convince a prospective student that CSU Stanislaus is the best fit for their higher education needs?
The campus is just the right size. Classes are not huge, so I can obtain all of the help I need from my professors.
