THE
STANISLAUS SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA was established in
1984. Since the beginning, the orchestra has
performed concerts on the Turlock campus featuring
many guest, faculty and student artists. The
orchestra is composed primarily of university
students with additional musicians from throughout
Stanislaus County. In 1988 the orchestra began a
tradition of presenting a free outdoor concert in
the University amphitheater on the Labor Day
weekend with attendance of 5,000. In 1990 the
orchestra made its first international tour to
Russia and Ukraine performing in the region of
Modesto's sister city, Khmelnitsky. These concerts
in the Kurume area represent our second
international tour to one of Modesto's sister
cities.
