Assessment Plan
Mission: The Liberal Studies Department is committed to preparation of pre-service elementary teachers who are competent in subject matter areas, capable of integrating knowledge across discipline boundaries, culturally sensitive to diverse learners, effective communicators, sound critical thinkers, and skilled in educational technology.
Student Learning Outcomes
Liberal Studies graduates:
- Make explicit connections between California K-8 Content Standards and subject matter knowledge in Liberal Studies major coursework. (2006-07)
- Demonstrate integrative thinking through the development of projects that connect and integrate discipline knowledge across subject matter areas. (2010-11)
- Demonstrate sensitivity to the diverse cultural, linguistic, and learning abilities of students, and understanding of a variety of teaching strategies to effectively teach all learners. (2009-10)
- Demonstrate effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills in a variety of communication contexts. (2011-2012)
- Reflect thoughtfully, and critically examine volunteer service activities in K-8 classrooms. (2007-08)
- Demonstrate educational technologies relevant to teaching and learning. (2008-09)
