IR is mandated to collect, maintain, and report data to federal or state agencies. One agency in particular is the U.S. Department's National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS). IPEDS is a system of survey components that collects data from postsecondary education institutions. IPEDS collects institution-level data on students (enrollment and graduation rates), student charges, program completions, faculty, staff, and finances.
