The College of Humanities and Social Sciences is pleased to launch a new speaker series, The CHSS Lunchtime Seminar, which is designed to showcase the achievements of College faculty, and provide the opportunity for members of the university and the larger community to listen to short, informal presentations while eating their lunch, and to participate in discussions that will follow each presentation.
Our next speaker will be Dr. Samuel O. Regalado, Professor of History, who will talk about his recently-completed book project.

The Conference for Sustainable Futures

As part of its growing commitment to sustainability and green technology, the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, California State University, Stanislaus is pleased to host the Conference for Sustainable Futures, a three-day event featuring speakers and activities that promote solutions to global climate change. Morning sessions will include sessions from the Bioneers Conference—an internationally acclaimed conference beamed live via a satellite feed to Turlock, CA. Afternoon sessions will feature local experts, faculty members and community groups who can speak to sustainable efforts underway in the Central Valley. More information coming in August 2009. New Strategies for Combatting Homelessness in Lisbon

| Dr. Jose Lucio, Professor of Economic Development at the New University of Lisbon, will review theoretical perspectives on poverty, exclusion, and homelessness; analyze strategies pursued by the United States to assist the chronically homeless, especially New York City's "Ten Year Plans"; and consider former and current strategies developed by Lisbon's municipal authorities to help the homeless. |

Race and gender in the Hiphop music movement will be the focus of a special program titled “Is Oprah Right? Race and Gender Politics in Hiphop.” The program will be held in the California State University, Stanislaus Event Center of the University Union. Admission is free and open to the public.
