The ASI Senate is divided into two branches; the Executive Branch and the Legislative Branch. The two branches are collectively referred to as “Senate”. The powers to make day to day operating decisions of ASI is vested in the Executive Branch which consists the ASI President, Vice President Internal, Vice President of Finance, and Vice President External. The powers to generate policy and develop the ASI annual budget are vested in the Legislative Branch which consists of 16 Senators that represent different constituencies across campus. The Senate also collectively advocates for the best interests of students through the power to create resolutions. The Senate ensures that students are effectively represented at the University-level through representation on campus-wide committees.

The ASI President will meet with you, explain to you more about what being an ASI Senator is all about and answer any questions you have.

After meeting with all interested candidates for an ASI Senate seat, the ASI President will make a decision about which candidate they feel is most qualified and bring the candidate to a Senate meeting and introduce them to the ASI Senate board. The Senate will then have a chance to ask the candidate questions to aid them in making their vote. The following week, the candidate will be up for approval. If the candidate gets a 2/3 vote of approval by the Senate, they join the ASI Senate immediately.
