ASI Senate Goals for Spring 2009

  1. Develop a sound senator recruitment strategy that addresses recent retention issues.  Part of this process should include strengthening of current transition practices.  This can be achieved through creation of “transition packets” for outgoing senators to pass onto incoming senators.  The current senate should research the possibility of senators receiving a stipend and help facilitate an organization-wide “recruitment day”.  Fulltime staff will help develop “work plans” to assist senators in achieving individual goals.
  2. The ASI Senate should strive to be the leading voice on campus in regard to environmental issues.  The organization, led by the senate, should move toward paperless distribution of documents and other materials.  Research should be conducted in the area of energy efficiency for both the Student Union and the campus.  Recycling and other sustainability initiatives should continue to be supported both financially and philosophically.
  3. Continue to develop innovative approaches communicating with the student body at-large.  Better communication with our constituents can be accomplished through investing in a new cell phone texting initiative and the reorganization of the association’s website.  The senate should look into the possibility of creating a marquee in a central campus location (i.e. the quad) to help facilitate our marketing efforts.  Senators should make a greater effort to support the ASI Public Relations position and work to create a university-wide program calendar.
  4. Priority Registration for athletes, honor students, and student government senators and executives should continue to be a primary objective.  Student government should work towards creating specific policy language to be submitted to the Academic Senate.
  5. Lobby Corps will be created through the leadership of the External Vice President.  Recruitment and retention of Lobby Corps volunteers should be the preliminary objective within this goal.  Scheduling and meeting with local lawmakers will be critical during the spring 2009 semester.
  6. The ASI Elections Committee will research the possibility of bringing online elections here to CSU Stanislaus.  If financially feasible, the committee should develop an implementation plan for the fall 2009 academic semester.
